Executive Director
New Mexico Behavioral Health Providers Association (NMBHPA)
Albuquerque, NM (statewide travel) | Flexible Hours | Hourly, Non-Exempt | Reports to the Board
Pay: $41 – $48 per hour, depending on experience
Lead the voice of New Mexico's behavioral health providers
NMBHPA brings together more than 70 publicly funded behavioral health providers and organizations across New Mexico. Our members share one vision: accessible, inclusive, and effective behavioral health services and mental well-being for everyone in our state.
We advocate for a strong and sustainable behavioral health system. Guided by a volunteer Board of Directors and a staff Executive Director, NMBHPA gives providers a place to share information, access education, and push for continuous improvement and positive change.
We work side by side with the New Mexico Health Care Authority (formerly HSD), the Children, Youth and Families Department, other state agencies, Medicaid managed care organizations, and the New Mexico State Legislature. Through standing meetings and issue-specific workgroups, we bring provider concerns directly to the people who can solve them. Members tell us these conversations make a real difference, from untangling Medicaid policy to reducing administrative burden and getting claims paid on time.
We are committed to equity and inclusion, and to culturally relevant care for every community in New Mexico.
Why this role matters
As NMBHPA's Executive Director, you will be the Association's day-to-day leader and its sole staff member. You will partner closely with an engaged, experienced Board made up of agency executives and clinical leaders from across the state. You will turn member input into clear priorities, carry those priorities to policymakers and payers, and keep members informed and connected.
If you understand what it takes to keep a behavioral health provider running, and you want to use that knowledge to strengthen the whole system, this is your seat at the table.
What you'll do
- Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, helping set priorities and carry out the Association's mission.
- Coordinate the work of committees and member workgroups so commitments are met and priorities move forward.
- Gather member input, identify issues affecting providers, and help leadership build consensus and recommendations.
- Represent NMBHPA with legislators, state agencies, managed care organizations, coalitions, and other partners.
- Track legislative, regulatory, and industry changes and keep the Board and members informed.
- Support advocacy and policy work through research, issue analysis, and supporting materials.
- Act as a resource on reimbursement, Medicaid managed care, credentialing, provider enrollment, workforce, and regulatory issues.
- Plan and facilitate member meetings, trainings, the annual conference, and workgroups; maintain the website and Member365 portal.
- Support budget development and financial oversight, with regular updates to the Board.
- Manage relationships with contractors, consultants, lobbyists, legal counsel, and accountants.
- Identify partnerships, sponsorships, and grants that strengthen member value and long-term sustainability.
